Trial & Execution of Charles I
The Rump Parliament charged King Charles I with treason and making war on his own country on January 1st ,1649. On the last day of his trial, the Parliament found him guilty and ordered the execution of the now former king. Charles woke early on the day he was to die and wore his finest clothes. He put on 2 shirts and ate food; he wanted to die with dignity. At one o'clock he went into a scaffold and said a few words. He was then executed by beheading.
