Protestants
The Protestants were Christians who did not belong to the Roman Catholic or Orthodox Eastern Church. This religion had many different congregations of worshiping and different interpretations of the Bible. This caused many arguments and disagreements between the diversity of the religion. Most of England were Protestants and the official Church of England was Anglican (a branch of the Protestant religion), lead by the king. This church organized services for the whole country which were very embellished because the buildings were decorated because it was funded by taxes from the people.
Persecuting Puritans
Though Puritanism was popular in the sixteenth and seventeenth century, there were times when practicing this faith became illegal. The Puritans could not hold their own church services and if they were caught, they would be imprisoned and fined. But the Puritans managed to fine solutions. Many Puritans left England and first went to Holland but later a group of Puritans chartered a ship called The Mayflower which took them to America. A Puritan colony was founded at Plymouth Rock in 1621, which attracted many believers. Other Puritans would try to enter the parliament or gain political power to promote the religion.
