The Middle Class
England was growing richer towards the 17th century and soon there became a middle class. The people that were ranked in this class were merchants, manufacturers, landowners, professionals, and military officers. Skilled workers of their own trade like carpenters blacksmiths, or dress makers could also afford to live quite adequately and earn a living. They belonged to guilds which made sure the members were protected and looked after their welfare.
The thriving members of the middle class could afford to live in nice town or country houses with very valuable and elaborate decorations and furniture that were transported from various places.
